Lockdown Security Tips

During these strange days of COVID-19, many of us are trapped at home during lockdowns. There’s many job losses, and the associated risks of burglary and property crime are somewhat of a risk to people everywhere. In this blog entry, the residential locksmith experts here at Mobile Locksmith Charleston will detail some essential home security tips for lockdowns.

Keep a Light On

By leaving a light on, you can deter burglars by providing the appearance that people are up and around in your home. Keep an outdoor light on a motion detector system, as they can sense people moving around outside, which can be enough of a scare to deter any burglar staking out your property.

Windows

Make sure to keep windows closed and locked, especially if you’re out of the house during the day and when you’re asleep at night. Windows are a common – yet often overlooked – method of entry for burglars, so you need to make sure they are secure if you care about keeping your property safe.

Lock Changes

Make sure that you have high security deadbolts installed on all exterior doors, not cheap locks that can be drilled, snapped, or bumped. If your locks don’t protect against these criminal entry attempts, we recommend installing anti snap locks. Make sure to update your locks when you move to a new property.

Social Media Discretion

Never share that you’re going to be traveling or out of the house for an extended amount of time on social media. Savvy thieves could be tracking your movement and staking out your property for a potential robbery,

Hide Valuables

Don’t leave valuables like antiques, expensive electronics, jewelry, or art in visible sigh by your windows. Even if you’re spending lots of time at home these days, make sure that people outside your home can easily see your valuables, as this can potentially tempt them to attempt a burglary. Keep high quality curtains on your windows as well, and draw them at night.
